Carol Priest’s inherent interest in science led her to work in laboratories at Palmerston North and Wellington hospitals and Aokautere Soil Science in Palmerston North before spending six years with Glaxo, now GlaxoSmithKline. During her time at Glaxo Carol became a qualified lab technologist, gaining an NZCS in Chemistry and leading a laboratory team.
After returning from overseas experience in the late seventies I discovered there were no natural skincare products available in NZ that I felt were safe to use on my own skin. I had problem skin and conventional products were ineffective. The herbal products I brought back from the U.K. were gentle and effective, and my skin was left feeling noticeably healthier and free from blemishes.
Working for Glaxo as a chemical analyst was an opportunity to analyse numerous raw materials according to the British Pharmacopeia and awakened my interest in working with pure plant-based raw materials. After leaving Glaxo to start a family I began substituting toxic chemicals with pure plant sourced ingredients into my own skincare formulations. This passion evolved into a successful business.
After establishing the reputation of her natural cosmetic products internationally Carol has now launched Plantæ with her daughters Janelle
“My daughters were brought up on organic food. I can see the benefits of organics for personal health, the community and our ecosystem. Certified organic skin care is the next step. It’s logical really”. – Carol Priest
